Tax revenue to be distributed evenly

New Britain Township is changing the way it distributes money brought in by its $52 local services tax.
After using that revenue to give the fledgling Chal-Brit Regional Emergency Management Service a one-time, $40,000 check last year, revenue will now be distributed evenly to fire, EMS, police and public works services. Supervisor William Jones said the township brought in about $130,000 last year from the local services tax — once known as the emergency services tax — collected from people who work in the township.
Each service will now get 25 percent of that revenue, money the township will set aside in a separate account. The revenue will be distributed once a year, around the end of April.
The township is served by multiple EMS companies and fire stations. How much each station gets from their service's 25 percent will be determined by how often they reported to emergencies in New Britain Township, Jones said.
New Britain Township also collects a half-mill ambulance tax and a 1.25-mill fire tax from residents.
