Service seeks funding from towns

New Britain Township recently passed a resolution that will give one-quarter of the revenue from its $52 local services taxes to ambulance services.
Now, the Chal-Brit Regional EMS is sending out query letters to the other municipalities it serves, hoping for similar funding.
Putting together a five-year spending plan for the fledgling ambulance service will be difficult without some idea of how much money will come from local service taxes in Chalfont, New Britain and possibly Hilltown, which Chal-Brit Regional serves on a fairly regular basis, said EMS board member and New Britain Township manager Bob Bender.
Last year, New Britain Township took the approximately $130,000 in revenues from the local services tax, levied on people who work in the township, and gave $40,000 of it to Chal-Brit Regional to help get the newly independent service off the ground and into its new Park Avenue headquarters. The resolution passed last month said that, from then on, LST revenue would be split evenly among the fire, ambulance, police and public works services that serve the township.
Now seems an appropriate time for the EMS company to write to its other three municipalities, asking what their intentions are, Bender said. Even if the answer is no, at least he'll know what they're working with when putting together a long-term spending plan, he said.
EMS board and Chalfont council member John Engel said he wasn't sure which way Chalfont was leaning on the issue, since the budget was rather tight. That borough, New Britain and Hilltown all levy a $52 local services tax, the maximum allowed by law.
Chal-Brit Regional board chairman Bob Bair said Thursday he'd send out the letters as soon as possible.
